Auditorio Tenerife's Rivero Plasencia Joins Royal Fine Arts Academy

José Luis Rivero Plasencia, artistic director of the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín, will officially join the Music section of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel today.

José Luis Rivero Plasencia, the artistic director of the Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín, is set to become a full member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts of San Miguel Arcángel. He will join the Music section during a special ceremony today, Wednesday, December 10, at 6:00 PM. The event will take place in the Chamber Hall of the auditorium.

During the ceremony, which is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, Rivero Plasencia will give a speech titled "Politics of the Symbolic: Culture as Democratic Infrastructure and Guarantee of Rights." Following his speech, academician Conrado Álvarez Fariña will deliver a laudation in his honor.

Rivero Plasencia expressed his feelings about the appointment, stating, “I receive my appointment as an academician of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts with deep humility, honor, and gratitude.” He added that this recognition means an even stronger commitment to promoting and strengthening culture and the arts in the Canary Islands. He also hopes to help Canarian artistic creations share their voice globally while staying true to their origins.

José Luis Rivero Plasencia has a degree in Hispanic Philology from the University of La Laguna and has completed advanced university studies. He has taught at the universities of La Laguna, UNED, and Vic. He founded and directed the Eduardo Westerdahl School of Creative Arts. Currently, he is the artistic director of the International Festival of Performing Arts of the Canary Islands (MAPAS). He has also served as president of the Spanish Network of Public Theaters, Auditoriums, Festivals, and Circuits, among many other important roles in the performing arts both in Spain and abroad.

Since becoming the artistic director of the Auditorium in 2003, he has organized and led numerous national and international events, including festivals, conferences, and congresses. He is also in charge of the Tenerife Opera season, the Piano and Chamber Music seasons, the regular Dance and Theater seasons, and the Auditorium's educational and social outreach programs, among many other responsibilities.
