The Auditorio de Tenerife has announced its 2026/2027 opera season, featuring a diverse program of classical masterpieces and contemporary works designed to address social polarization while expanding accessibility for younger audiences.

The Auditorio de Tenerife has unveiled its 2026/2027 opera season, with Island Minister of Culture José Carlos Acha and artistic director José Luis Rivero framing the program as a reflection on today’s social polarization. The institution aims to build on its current success, which draws over 18,000 spectators and includes 1,300 subscribers—a group that increasingly features younger audiences, with 200 members now under the age of 30.

Running from September 2026 to June 2027, the season focuses on national and international co-productions. By partnering with major institutions like the Gran Teatre del Liceu, the Palau de les Arts, Festival Peralada, and the Ópera de Oviedo, the auditorium is bringing large-scale works to Tenerife. Highlights include Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, Wagner’s Lohengrin, Handel’s Orlando, Ambroise Thomas’s Hamlet, and the new zarzuela El orgullo de quererte by Javier Carmena.

A key feature of the season is the Spanish premiere of two auditorium-produced works: Benjamin Britten’s Owen Wingrave and Thomas Adès’s Powder Her Face. These will be complemented by the "Ópera en minúscula" (Opera in Miniature) series, which features chamber works by composers such as Gabriela Ortiz and Ana Sokolovic, performed at Espacio La Granja and Teatro Leal. Presenter Ramón Gener will share further details on June 17.

To improve accessibility, the auditorium has adjusted its start times to 7:00 p.m. on most days, with Sunday performances beginning at 6:00 p.m. Pricing remains inclusive, with subscriptions for those under 30 priced at 35 euros. General public subscriptions for the seven-opera series are available for 140 or 190 euros, depending on the performance. Current subscribers can renew their packages now, and new subscriptions will open on June 23.

This announcement comes as the auditorium gains recognition for its production of Yerma, which recently earned several nominations at the Talía Awards. By balancing classical masterpieces with contemporary works across its various venues, the Auditorio de Tenerife continues to solidify its reputation as a vital hub in the European opera scene.
