Auditorio de Tenerife Reports Record Attendance for 2025-2026 Lyrical Season
The Auditorio de Tenerife concluded its 2025-2026 lyrical season with record-breaking attendance of over 28,000 spectators, driven by a surge in young audiences and a historic high in subscriber loyalty.
The Auditorio de Tenerife has wrapped up its 2025-2026 lyrical season with record-breaking attendance, marking a historic turning point for the venue. According to the island’s Cabildo, the season saw over 28,000 spectators, signaling a shift away from the idea that opera is only for a niche audience.
Minister of Culture José Carlos Acha noted that the institution reached an all-time high of 1,300 subscribers. This growing loyalty is already carrying over into the next season, with more than 6,000 tickets already reserved—10% of which were booked by people under 30. This influx of younger viewers is a direct result of successful outreach efforts, including educational sessions by Ramón Gener and Javi Alonso, as well as popular recitals and lied evenings that drew over 3,000 attendees.
The season’s programming was both ambitious and varied, balancing large-scale productions with more intimate performances. The season concluded in June with La verbena de la Paloma, which attracted 4,200 people over three nights. Other highlights included The Flying Dutchman (4,000), Roméo et Juliette (3,900), Yerma (3,800), Orfeo ed Euridice (2,700), Adiós a la bohemia (2,000), Bluebeard's Castle (1,000), and Los celos hacen estrellas y el amor hace prodigios (250). Additionally, the Ópera en minúscula cycle hosted seven shows across various local venues, reaching over 800 people.
This success comes at a time when performing arts centers across Spain are working hard to ensure their long-term financial and social stability. By building a loyal subscriber base and successfully attracting younger audiences, the Auditorio de Tenerife has proven that it is more than just a venue—it is a vital cultural engine for the community.
