Atlantic Jazz Lab Orchestra Launches Canary Islands Tour for #CANARYISLANDSJAZZWEEK2026
The Atlantic Jazz Lab Orchestra, led by Natanael Ramos and featuring vocalist Esther Van Hees, is launching a ten-day, seven-island tour across the Canary Islands to promote their live album Too darn hot.
The Canary Islands jazz scene is gearing up for a major tour, #CANARYISLANDSJAZZWEEK2026. The project is based on the live album Too darn hot, which features the Atlantic Jazz Lab Orchestra, led by trumpeter Natanael Ramos, and vocals by 2025 Edison Jazz Award winner Esther Van Hees.
Supported by both public and private organizations—including the Canary Islands Institute of Cultural Development and the University of La Laguna—the tour highlights the importance of bringing culture to all corners of the islands. The series begins this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. at the Auditorio Insular in San Sebastián de La Gomera, before traveling across the region.
Following the opening night, the tour will visit several locations:
- May 2: Gran Hotel Costa Adeje (Tenerife)
- May 3: Sala Canarias en Vivo (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria)
- May 8: Auditorio de la Peña (Valverde, El Hierro)
- May 9: Paraninfo of the University of La Laguna (Tenerife)
- May 10: Hotel Barceló Playa Blanca (Yaiza, Lanzarote)
- Closing: Auditorio de Antigua (Fuerteventura)
This initiative is vital for strengthening jazz distribution networks in Spain. While jazz remains a niche genre, these inter-island tours provide the support needed to sustain large ensembles. Thanks to partnerships with companies like Barceló and GF Hoteles, the tour can manage the complex logistics of moving a full orchestra across seven islands in just ten days, ensuring that high-quality, avant-garde performances reach audiences beyond the main capital cities.
