Atlético Paso has secured promotion to the Segunda Federación after a dramatic final-day result saw them finish at the top of their Tercera División group.
Atlético Paso has secured a return to the Segunda Federación after a dramatic final day in the Canary Islands group of the Tercera División. The La Palma side clinched direct promotion by finishing at the top of the table, a result confirmed by their own performance in Fuerteventura and a late loss by San Fernando at the Silvestre Carrillo stadium.
The championship was decided in the final moments of the season. While Atlético Paso drew 1-1 against Herbania—with a goal from Samu Corral and an equalizer from José Yared—a 90th-minute goal by Mensajero against San Fernando settled the standings. This result not only confirmed promotion for Maxi Barrera’s team but also relegated Herbania to the Preferente division, following a win by San Bartolomé in their own match.
The match at Los Pozos was intense from the start. Atlético Paso took the lead in the first half, but Herbania leveled the score with a free kick after the break. Both teams traded chances in the final minutes, but strong goalkeeping and the crossbar kept the score level.
This promotion is a major milestone for the La Palma club as they return to the fourth tier of Spanish football. The Segunda Federación is known for its high level of competition and the logistical challenge of frequent travel to the mainland. Celebrations began on the pitch in Fuerteventura and quickly moved back to La Palma, where fans welcomed the club’s return to a division where they hope to establish themselves next season.
