In Spain, two more suspects were detained in the kidnapping and murder in Tenerife.
In Spain, two more suspects have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of Alberto González in Tenerife, committed last year by the Añaza gang.
The National Police of Spain have arrested two more young men from the Añañaz gang. They are suspected of the kidnapping and murder of Alberto González, which took place last July in Tenerife.
The police continue to work on this case, so further arrests are possible. Previously, kickboxer Moisés Bauter, businessman Aarón Vargas, and nightclub security guard Jonathan Martín were arrested for these crimes. All of them are from Tenerife.
The kidnapping and murder of Alberto González (he was 34 years old, from El Cardonal) shocked all of Tenerife. The crime was very brutal – it is said that hammers were used. The first arrests also attracted the attention of the media throughout Spain.
Moisés Bauter (nicknamed Moi Big Ears) and Jonathan Martín (Fatty) turned themselves in to the police on July 30. They arrived in a car with Alberto González's body in the trunk. There was another guy, León, in the back seat, who had also been kidnapped and seriously injured. He was a friend of Alberto's.
Aarón Vargas (Caca) was arrested on August 1, three days after the first two. Bauter, Martín, and Vargas were sent to prisons in mainland Spain because there were fears that other prisoners in the Tenerife prison might take revenge on them.
Fifty-eight days after Bauter and Martín surrendered, there were new arrests. The police continue to investigate, and the judge has decided to keep the details of the case secret for now.
Investigators believe that the first three detainees were assisted by other members of the Añañaz gang. After all, kidnapping two people for three days, killing one and seriously injuring the other, is a complex operation. Police are looking for at least two more guys who are likely involved in these crimes.
The investigation helped to reconstruct the chronology of events that led to the arrest of Aarón Vargas, Moisés Bauter, and Jonathan Martín. They are suspected of murder (or intentional homicide), aggravated assault, unlawful imprisonment, and abuse.
Two more detainees were added to them this Thursday. They have not yet appeared in court and are in police custody. But there may be more in the coming hours.
According to the police's main version, it all started in April last year. At a music festival in southern Tenerife, Alberto had a fight with members of the Añañaz gang. The fight continued in a nightclub. There, Alberto was stabbed. The attacker was a member of a rival group with whom he had a long-standing feud.
After that, threats began between them. On Monday, July 28, an acquaintance of Alberto's (who was called Albertito in El Cardonal) called him to the parking lot of a supermarket in the Santa Cruz area. The guy arrived with his friend León in a car.
But members of the rival gang, probably Moisés Bauter and Jonathan Martín, were waiting for them in the parking lot. From that moment on, they realized they had been lured into a trap.
Police believe that at this meeting in the parking lot, members of the Añañaz gang kidnapped Alberto and León, forced them into a car, and began beating them to tie them up. They were held in different houses, at least one of which was in Güímar and another in the Santa Cruz Santa María del Mar area.
Of the three sent to prison, Moisés Bauter was the first to be transferred to the mainland for security reasons, on September 5. The other two, Aarón Vargas and Jonathan Martín, were transferred on September 16.
These three guys have a long criminal history, including robberies from drug dealers. Therefore, their stay in the Tenerife prison was dangerous. The prison administration warned that it could not guarantee their safety.
In each block of the Tenerife prison, there are prisoners who have questions for them. Therefore, the judge decided to transfer these three guys to different prisons in mainland Spain. This was done in two stages.
