Fogón Cho Edu in Tenerife, run by Asturian native Eduardo Espasande, has been recognized with the "Best Cachopo in the Canary Islands" award for its authentic take on the traditional dish.

Cachopo, a traditional dish from Asturias, has become a must-try for visitors to the region.

While the classic recipe features Serrano ham and a rich melting cheese like Cabrales, many restaurants now offer creative twists, adding new ingredients to the veal for a unique experience.

Content creators @guachinchesmodernos recently sampled what they called the "best cachopo in the Canary Islands," saying it felt just like being in Asturias. They were also impressed by the restaurant itself.

Fogón Cho Edu, an Asturian restaurant in Tenerife, has been serving authentic cuisine since 2013. It's run by Eduardo Espasande, who hails from Gijón, Asturias. The restaurant is located in Arafo, close to the Güímar industrial estate.

One content creator described the atmosphere as so authentic, "the only thing missing is the meadow and the cows outside."

The restaurant is open daily from 1 PM to 5 PM, but is closed on Tuesdays.

Fogón Cho Edu's menu showcases classic Asturian dishes.

Starters include creamy Iberian ham and Cabrales cheese croquettes, and Asturian picadillo – a flavourful mix of chorizo, potatoes, and fried eggs with a hint of spice.

No Asturian meal is complete without fabada, a hearty bean stew with chorizo, black pudding, and pork.

For dessert, a warm rice pudding is the perfect sweet ending.

In 2022, Fogón Cho Edu was awarded "Best Cachopo in the Canary Islands" at a national competition in Oviedo. The event featured 141 restaurants from Spain and beyond.

Organised by Guía del Cachopo, the restaurant not only won the regional award but was also a finalist in the meat category, cementing its reputation for authentic Asturian flavour in the Canary Islands.
