AST Urges Las Eras Industrial Estate Revival for Jobs
Arico Somos Todos (AST) proposes reviving the "abandoned" Las Eras industrial estate with modernization, expansion, and a waste treatment plant to boost local jobs and the economy, urging the Cabildo de Tenerife for support.
The political group Arico Somos Todos (AST) suggested yesterday that the Las Eras industrial estate should be brought back to life. Their goal is to make it a key driver for jobs and the local economy. The progressive party noted that this area, which was meant to be important for business growth, is currently "abandoned."
AST councilor José Luis Hervella argued that businesses in their municipality have "historically been largely forgotten." He stressed that this sector is crucial because it creates jobs, wealth, and income for the local council.
Hervella explained that the lack of industry directly impacts local people. He said, "Most of our residents have to travel long distances to work outside Arico because there are no job opportunities here."
The party wants to revive the industrial estate by modernizing it and adding the necessary services to attract companies. One of their ideas is to potentially expand the industrial area into nearby land. According to the councilor, this "would help bring in industry and skilled workers, and create various benefits for the local community."
They also suggested building a mixed waste treatment plant. This plant would handle both industrial waste from the estate and household waste from the town. Hervella believes this facility would help meet environmental rules without harming public health or nature. He added that the investment for household waste would be small because the municipality produces a low volume of it.
"Bringing the Las Eras industrial estate back to life isn't just about money; it's also important for society and for our future strategy," emphasized the group's spokesperson, whose party has two councilors.
The poor condition of the industrial estate also impacts people living nearby, particularly in the Las Eras Altas neighborhood. The Las Ceras neighborhood association told this newspaper that the biggest issue is the lack of upkeep in the area. Residents have reported rubbish, potholes, and piles of waste, along with a lack of basic facilities. They said, "Some areas are impossible to walk through; there are no pavements, gardens, or green spaces."
AST is urging the Cabildo de Tenerife (Tenerife Island Council) to help with the renovation and modernization of the industrial estate.
