Summer Carnival in Puerto de la Cruz: three days of emotions and art
The Summer Carnival in Puerto de la Cruz was a spectacular event filled with music, dance, and art, culminating in the presentation of the poster for the 2026 International Carnival.
The Summer Carnival recently rocked the town of Puerto de la Cruz! These three days, from September 19 to 21, were simply an explosion of emotions, art, and carnival spirit. Everyone was thrilled!
More than 40 different artists and groups took part in the carnival: dance groups, musicians, acrobats, DJs, and, of course, flamboyant drag artists. It was a true combination of carnival traditions and contemporary art. The city simply shone with diversity, energy, and creativity!
On Friday, the Costa Martiánez tourist complex hosted a cool opening event – Gala Transgresora. The show was top-notch, thanks to Wycho Torres!
Grimasira Maeva, Drag Chuchi, Exuberancia Carey, Vanesa Artiles, Aythami Legendary, and Drag Armek (winner of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria 2025 carnival) lit up the stage. Lady Blue closed the evening. Dance groups Son Bahía and Essavan also performed, adding drive and local flavor to this fun and open party in Puerto.
On Saturday, the carnival continued with the Diversas festival. The Andrómeda Hall in Costa Martiánez was transformed into a platform for art in all its forms. Marcela Kaufmann and Ibán Padrón brought together more than 20 artists who put on an incredible show with music, humor, acrobatics, dance, and visual effects.
The participants included singers Daniel Tejera and Sonia Gil, actress Judith, gymnast Cristofer Benítez Hernández, actor Josel Angelino, and roller-skating acrobats Zobel and Amy. Ballets Dibelo & CO and Maravillas, dancers Gaia Vanzo and Ada Bez, and, of course, comparsa Los Cariocas, who made everyone dance to their fiery rhythms, also performed.
And to end the evening, Ni un Pelo de Tonto, The Boys Machine, and DJ Ubay Hernández performed, spinning music until the morning!
A special moment was the presentation of the poster for the 2026 International Carnival, which will take place from February 1 to 28. The poster was created by local illustrator Jonás Emmanuel Hernández, inspired by Mexican culture. He added local symbols to his design, such as the fisherman's sculpture on the pier, and mentioned Mascarita Ponte Tacón and Pepe – the favorite masks of the Puerto carnival.
And the closing of the carnival took place on Playa Jardín. Dance and percussion groups Danzarines Canarios, Essavan, Barabere, comparsas Son Bahía, Bahía, and Sabaiba (the latter two from La Palma), and the energetic Guayota Drums performed there. It was very fun and family-like!
The Summer Carnival in Puerto de la Cruz was a great success, attracting many spectators. It showed how important it is to be open to everyone and celebrate culture. The organizers promise that the next carnivals will be even better!
