Arona Records Robust Tourism Year in 2025
Arona, Tenerife, experienced a strong tourism year in 2025, marked by increased national and international promotion, diverse events, and strategic collaborations that solidified its position as a leading destination.
The year 2025 was a strong one for tourism in Arona, a popular resort town in the south of Tenerife. Arona boasts over 15 kilometers of coastline, home to well-known destinations like Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos, Costa del Silencio, and Las Galletas. It also features charming inland areas and a historic town center with deep Canarian roots.
Throughout 2025, Arona stepped up its efforts to promote the destination both nationally and internationally. It improved the range of experiences and activities available for all types of visitors, especially high-level athletes, and boosted its presence at major industry events.
A key initiative was Arona's participation in leading tourism fairs. Early in the year, the town attended FITUR 2025, the International Tourism Fair in Madrid. Here, Arona showcased itself as a top destination, highlighting its diverse tourist offerings, quality services, and excellent hotels and resorts. Being at FITUR also allowed Arona to demonstrate its strong collaboration between public bodies and major hotel and tourism groups.
For institutional promotion, Arona also took part in the Turespaña Convention 2025 in Cáceres. This reinforced its commitment to continuously improving the visitor experience and offering diverse options.
Arona's event calendar was particularly busy in 2025. The year-long program included everything from cultural and food-related activities to concerts and sports championships, all of which attracted visitors and brought new life to the area for both tourists and locals. Notable events included the ongoing Arona Folk Fest 2025–2026 in Los Cristianos, and a major concert by Manuel Turizo in October 2025 at the Antonio Domínguez Stadium Annex, which put Arona on the map for big international music events.
In sports, Arona boosted its reputation as a hub for active tourism with top-level competitions and events that gained global attention. These included the 14th Arona Tenerife International Combined Events Meeting on June 21 and 22 in Playa de Las Américas, the Spring Surfest Las Américas Pro from late November to early December, also in Playa de Las Américas, and "Las Américas Boxing Championships: La Revancha" on September 5, which added to the list of major events in the municipality.
Open water swimming also played a key part, with the second "The Blue Challenge" Swimming Crossing on November 9, starting and finishing at Los Cristianos Beach. This event highlighted how sports and tourism work well together, especially during the mid-season.
Furthermore, local sports put Arona on the map beyond the Canary Islands. A significant achievement was the Los Cristianos Swimming Club's participation in the World Masters Swimming Championships in Singapore from August 5–15, 2025, where the town was represented at a top international event.
Activities and experiences linked to local food and culture also played an important role. Throughout the year, new activities focused on Canarian food and local identity were introduced. These aimed to give visitors more than just sun and sand, by linking food, tradition, and the local environment.
Alongside events and promotion, 2025 was a year of close collaboration with local businesses, including travel agencies, tour operators, hotels, shops, and tourist services. The goal was to tailor Arona's offerings to what tourists want and need. In a significant national achievement, Arona closed 2025 by taking over as president of the Alliance of Sun and Beach Tourist Municipalities (AMT). This organization includes top destinations like Adeje, Benidorm, Calvià, Lloret de Mar, Salou, San Bartolomé de Tirajana, and Torremolinos, boosting Arona's influence in shaping the future of Spanish tourism.
One of the main focuses has been family, sports, cultural, and experiential tourism. Initiatives and activities like sports competitions, combined events, surfing, contact sports, and open water swimming attract participants and fans, adding to the usual tourist attractions and helping to attract visitors all year round.
Tourist information offices, located at key spots such as Playa de Las Américas, Los Cristianos, Playa de Las Vistas, and Las Galletas, actively informed visitors and made it easier for them to get information and connect with the destination.
According to Arona's Second Deputy Mayor and Tourism Councilor, Naím Yánez Alonso, "Arona has strengthened its image as a well-established and recognized destination, combining the strength of its main tourist areas with a wide range of activities, services, and experiences." Its climate, coastal geography, and diverse offerings remain key reasons for attracting visitors during both peak and mid-seasons, and for meeting the needs of all kinds of tourists.
The year 2025 showed that Arona continued to move forward with its goals of promoting itself, improving its standing, and boosting tourism. The combination of event participation, cultural and leisure programs, alliances with tourism companies, and a sports and music agenda featuring notable names led to a successful year. Looking ahead to 2026, the groundwork laid will help Arona's tourism continue to grow, adapting to market trends and meeting the expectations of those who choose Arona as a holiday destination.
