The Socialist municipal group has filed a formal complaint regarding the poor condition of several children’s playgrounds in key areas of Playa de Las Américas, including the Golden Mile, Francisco Andrade Fumero Avenue, and the Amazonas promenade.
Councilman Frank Tolle notes that the issue goes beyond simple maintenance. He points to the long-term closure of these areas and a lack of play equipment, which have persisted for months. The Socialists argue that this reflects poorly on the administration under Mayor Fátima Lemes. They are particularly concerned that the degradation of these sites—including the municipality’s first inclusive park—fails to meet the standards of accessibility required for child welfare.
Beyond basic repairs to flooring and equipment, the PSOE is calling for two major improvements. First, they are urging the installation of shade structures, noting that rising temperatures make the parks unusable during the middle of the day. Second, they are demanding better regulation of personal mobility vehicles (such as e-scooters), which are frequently parked in a way that blocks sidewalks and creates safety hazards near play areas.
The opposition is calling for urgent action, arguing that these spaces are vital for family leisure and social cohesion. They insist that the local government must prioritize the upkeep of these facilities to ensure that essential public services remain functional for the community.
