Arona Launches €1 Million Local Consumption Stimulus Program
Arona City Council has launched a 461,400-euro stimulus program offering subsidized vouchers to boost local business revenue through 2026.
Arona City Council has launched its 2026 local consumption stimulus program, an initiative led by the Department of Economic Promotion, Primary Sector, and Employment. The program aims to boost the local economy by generating nearly one million euros in business revenue through a public co-financing model.
Managed by the Federation of Urban Areas of the Canary Islands (Fauca), the scheme uses 20-euro vouchers. Customers pay 10 euros for each voucher, with the City Council covering the remaining 10 euros. With a total budget of 461,400 euros, each adult can purchase up to 12 vouchers using their official identification. Sales begin on July 7 at 12:00 p.m. via a dedicated digital platform and will continue until the end of 2026 or until all vouchers are sold.
The program is open to a wide range of local businesses, including retail shops, restaurants, beauty salons, and hairdressers. To ensure the funds are distributed fairly, each business can redeem a maximum of 6,000 euros. Self-employed individuals and small-to-medium enterprises can register to participate starting today.
This initiative is part of a growing trend among Spanish local governments to support traditional businesses against competition from large digital platforms. By encouraging residents to shop locally, Arona City Council hopes to provide immediate financial support to small businesses while strengthening the local economy. Mayor Fátima Lemes Reverón emphasized that the program serves as a vital tool for ensuring the long-term stability of local businesses.
