Arona Deploys Local Drone Technology to Enhance Emergency Response
The municipality of Arona has launched a mobile command unit equipped with locally developed drone technology to enhance emergency response and public safety operations.
Arona is modernizing its local security forces by using new drone technology to better manage emergencies. The Tenerife municipality has introduced a mobile unit designed to decentralize command and control, allowing police to manage critical situations directly from the field.
At the heart of this initiative is DroneStreamCast, a platform developed entirely in the Canary Islands. Unlike traditional systems, this tool lets officers receive and manage live aerial footage on-site. Led by Héctor Reyes, the Department of Local Police has transformed a standard vehicle into an advanced command post. The system is user-friendly, meaning officers do not need specialized technical training to operate it.
This technology is designed to improve response times in complex scenarios, such as search and rescue missions, large-scale event monitoring, fire control, and general public safety. Because the system can stream footage to other coordination centers and record data for later use, it provides a clear, documented record of police interventions in both urban and natural environments.
The project highlights a successful public-private partnership, featuring software from Servicios Electrónicos and mechanical adaptations by Electro Zafiro. This collaboration ensures that the city has a customized solution that is easy to maintain and upgrade.
Arona’s Mayor, Fátima Lemes Reverón, noted that this investment allows officers to reach areas with poor visibility and improves the overall efficiency of public services. The Local Police department added that the drones will support daily operations, particularly in coastal protection and incident management. By adopting these digital tools, Arona is positioning itself as a leader in municipal security within the Canary Islands, focusing on faster, more informed decision-making.
