Arona Creates First Official Canarian Folklore Dance Instructor Role

The Arona Culture Board has made an unprecedented move in the Canary Islands' cultural scene: they've announced the first official job opening for a Canarian folklore dance instructor. This is a landmark event, set to change how the region recognizes, protects, and professionalizes its cultural identity.

No public institution in the Canary Islands had ever pushed for such an initiative before. It's now happening thanks to the direct efforts of Deputy Mayor Naím Yánez Alonso, who is also the VOX spokesperson and head of the cultural department. He managed to unblock a process that citizens, the Arona Municipal Folklore School, dance groups, and many folklore figures had been calling for for years.

"Announcing this position was simply the right thing to do," Yánez stated. "Our Folklore School deserves it. There had been years of empty promises about this job opening, but now, after just a few months of our management, it's finally becoming a reality with this announcement."

This job announcement doesn't just address a practical need within Arona's cultural programs. It's also a hugely important symbolic and practical step. It professionalizes a discipline that is a vital part of the region's intangible heritage and will ensure ongoing training at Arona's municipal folklore school.

Since joining Arona's local government, VOX has pledged to give culture a central role again, moving away from unplanned activities and bringing stability, seriousness, and a long-term vision to it.

This initiative also creates new opportunities for dance instructors and experts in traditional Canarian culture who previously couldn't secure a recognized job within local government.
