Arona City Council has approved budget restructuring to fund future infrastructure projects, including a new police station, and to support the preservation of local historical heritage.

Arona City Council is restructuring its finances to better fund public infrastructure and protect the area’s historical heritage. Following the April plenary session, the local government approved two budget changes that provide the necessary funds for future property purchases and renovation projects.

The plan, supported by the governing coalition (PP, CC, and VOX) and Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista, with the Socialist groups and Más por Arona abstaining, is part of a long-term strategy to ensure the municipality remains financially stable as its population grows. The government is focusing on mid-altitude areas—including Valle San Lorenzo, La Camella, Cabo Blanco, and Buzanada—where they plan to build a new police station to improve security and decentralize services.

The Urban Planning department clarified that these funds are not for immediate purchases but to create a budget that allows the council to act quickly when suitable real estate becomes available, provided all legal and technical requirements are met. Mayor Fátima Lemes described the move as a proactive step to meet rising demand for public services and modernize the local administration.

Additionally, the council updated its Strategic Subsidy Plan for 2024–2026. This includes a new budget line dedicated to restoring historical buildings and sacred art. This initiative reflects a commitment to preserving local history, ensuring that as Arona continues to develop, it maintains a balance between expanding essential services and protecting its cultural identity.
