The organization AST demands the annulment of the decision by the municipality of Arico to rename public places in honor of former mayors, considering it a violation of ethics and legality.

The organization Arico Somos Todos (AST) demands the annulment of the decision unanimously adopted last Friday. According to this decision, the municipality of Arico decided to name public places after the mayors who governed the city from 2011 to 2025. This concerns the current head, Olivia Delgado, who proposed this idea, as well as Juan José Armas, Elena Fumero, and Sebastián Martín.

AST says that the initiative was voted on without the knowledge of the secretary and without including the issue on the agenda. The organization's representative, José Luis Hervella, accuses Olivia Delgado of rewarding herself, which, in his opinion, violates the principles of legality and impartiality.

AST considers the mayor's proposal a serious violation of ethics and demands that a dialogue be started to find a solution regarding names that would respect the history of the city and not include those currently in power, namely Olivia Delgado.

Hervella acknowledges that two councilors from AST supported the proposal, but now they consider it unacceptable. In his opinion, "rewarding oneself is ugly, illegal, and unfair. It undermines people's trust in the authorities, and this should be avoided."

AST asks to honor the memory of all mayors of the democratic era, but insists on excluding those who currently hold office. They propose that the Council of Spokespersons consider this issue and emphasize that it is important to honor residents who have made a significant contribution to the development of the city, especially those associated with agriculture, the cooperative movement, and public organizations.
