Tenerife: Protests against the construction of a luxury complex have turned into a march.
In Tenerife, protesters demanded a halt to the construction of the luxury complex Cuna del Alma, accusing the developer of violations and destruction of an archaeological site.
In Tenerife, in the town of Adeje, about two hundred people protested against the construction of the luxury complex Cuna del Alma. People demanded to stop the construction, considering it illegal. Excavators continued to work, guarded by police officers.
The action, organized by several public groups, started on Playa Paraiso Avenue, near the road to Puertito de Adeje. From there, the protesters moved to the city.
People walked along the road, shouting: "Less concrete, more sense!", "Tourism lives thanks to the Canary Islands!" and "The Canary Islands are not for sale, they are loved and protected!". On one side of the road was a hotel, and on the other - chaotic buildings of shacks, tents and trailers.
During the march, the organizers talked about the situation. They emphasized that this construction caused a lot of controversy regarding mass tourism in the Canary Islands. By the way, in May, the government of the Canary Islands already fined the developer 229,500 euros for damaging an archaeological site.
Víctor Martín from the Tagoror Permanente organization said that they have been "monitoring" the construction for 55 days. According to him, there were many violations, but the local authorities, the government, and the environmental police did nothing. Therefore, they decided to call on people to protest and force the authorities to act.
He also added that they had filed several complaints due to the fact that the construction company was increasingly violating the law.
"The last months of work have been going very fast. It seems that the company wants to destroy everything, and then say that there is nothing to save. But there is still time if you intervene now. The risk increases every day, because they work from Monday to Friday," Martín noted.
Therefore, according to him, the protesters demand that construction be stopped immediately, so that the company shows all the necessary documents (permits) and that the Adeje authorities and the construction company answer for their actions.
