Canarian actress Antonia San Juan made an emotional return to the stage in Tenerife, receiving a standing ovation after sharing her cancer diagnosis.
Canarian actress Antonia San Juan has returned to the stage after sharing her cancer diagnosis. She called it a "homecoming" performance, as her first show since her diagnosis was in Icod de Los Vinos.
The actress, famous across Spain for playing Estela in the TV series La Que Se Avecina, said last Saturday, before her return, that it was "a special day."
On Instagram, Antonia San Juan explained, "It's going to do me good, I feel that way." She added that she plans to ease back into work "in a measured way."
In the same post, she spoke of her "excitement" to see her audience again, especially since the show was in Tenerife, which she called "My beloved Canarian homeland."
After her performance in Icod de Los Vinos, she shared similar feelings, thanking the audience for their support: "I am very happy to be here with my people."
To an enthusiastic crowd, San Juan added, "I always say that the Canary Islands are like a cake with eight slices, and I feel like a part of all of them."
Clearly emotional, standing at the edge of the stage, she repeatedly thanked the audience for coming: "Thank you for being here tonight, giving me human warmth, which is what is most needed at this time."
After these closing words, the audience gave Antonia San Juan a standing ovation, celebrating her return to the stage as she continues her fight against cancer.
