Andrés Delgado's "Canteros/Bancales" Exhibition Opens in Córdoba
The University of Córdoba is presenting "Canteros/Bancales," an art exhibition by Tenerife-born artist Andrés Delgado, showcasing landscape-inspired paintings that explore themes of identity and disappearing traditions.
The University of Córdoba is hosting a new art exhibition called "Canteros/Bancales" by artist Andrés Delgado from Tenerife. It opens this Thursday afternoon and will be on display until January 4 at the UCOCultura Center, located at Plaza de la Corredera, 40.
Andrés Delgado, born in 1953, studied Fine Arts in Tenerife and Madrid. He won his first painting prize in 1969 and held his first solo exhibition in 1972. Since 2010, he's been part of Colectivo Tres en Suma, a group that aims to connect artists with the public. Over the years, Delgado has showcased his work in numerous exhibitions across Spain, Europe, and the United States.
"Canteros/Bancales" focuses on the terraces and garden plots of Arico, where Delgado lives and works. His paintings, though seemingly abstract, are inspired by the island's landscape. He captures the fog at dawn, the hazy mountains, and the way light transforms the scenery.
Delgado uses these natural elements to explore deeper themes, such as the changing landscape and the disappearance of traditional ways of life that allowed people to thrive in a dry environment for centuries.
The University of Córdoba describes Delgado as an experienced artist who has spent over 40 years reflecting on the relationship between landscape, identity, and collective memory.
He's also known as a dedicated artist and cultural organizer. His home in Madrid became a hub for Canary culture, fostering connections between artists, institutions, and audiences.
Delgado's work has been featured in museums and cultural centers worldwide, and he has been involved in projects that promote Spanish contemporary art on a global scale.
