The Aldis Canary Foundation will host a free congress, "What Pain Doesn't Say," on February 7, 2026, at the University of La Laguna in Tenerife, focused on identifying and managing pain in people with disabilities who cannot express it.

The Aldis Canary Foundation will host a free congress called "What Pain Doesn't Say" on Saturday, February 7, 2026. The event will take place at the César Manrique General Lecture Hall at the University of La Laguna in San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Tenerife.

This congress aims to help identify and manage pain and other "invisible" issues in people with disabilities, especially when they cannot clearly express what they are feeling. This difficulty in communication can often delay diagnosis and treatment.

Since 2006, the Aldis Foundation has supported families of children and young people with disabilities. They offer therapeutic services and tools to improve quality of life, and are committed to researching and introducing new, proven therapies in the Canary Islands.

A Comprehensive Program: Clinical, Therapeutic, and Family Experiences

The congress is designed to be a key event for professionals, experts, families, and anyone interested in the topic. Its goal is to improve how pain is identified and to promote more effective ways to help, reducing the negative impact that a lack of expression can have on a person's physical and emotional well-being.

Practical and Evidence-Based: Understanding Neurology and Intervention Tools

The program will be balanced, with half of the presentations focusing on clinical aspects and the other half on therapeutic approaches. This format aims to provide knowledge for preventing complications that arise when people cannot speak about their pain, and to offer tools related to communication, self-regulation, and the central nervous system.

Throughout the day, the congress will feature specialized talks and discussions, including round tables with families and professionals, to encourage the sharing of knowledge and experiences.

Presentations and Round Tables

Highlights of the program include:

  • Dr. Raimond Hilu, speaking about his research on the blood-brain barrier and neuroinflammation.
  • A family panel, sharing experiences about the challenges of their children expressing pain.
  • Occupational therapist Dafne Santana, discussing interoception and self-regulation.
  • Dr. Carla Ramírez, a Precision Medicine specialist, talking about neurodevelopmental disorders.
  • A specialist panel discussing recent research.
  • Neurological physiotherapist Joaquim Vicent, presenting on posture and functional neurology.
  • Sol Solís from La Fábrica de las Palabras, demonstrating Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools for expressing physical and emotional discomfort.

The event will run from 9:00 AM to 7:45 PM and will include coffee and lunch breaks.
