Alberto Conejero’s ‘Tres noches en Ítaca’ Premieres at Tenerife’s CajaCanarias Cultural Space
The CajaCanarias Cultural Space in Tenerife is hosting Alberto Conejero’s contemporary drama Tres noches en Ítaca, starring Marta Nieto, Cecilia Freire, and Amaia Lizarralde, as part of its "Spring at the Foundation" series.
Tenerife’s theater scene is putting a spotlight on contemporary drama this week at the CajaCanarias Cultural Space. As part of its seasonal program, the venue is hosting Tres noches en Ítaca (Three Nights in Ithaca), a play by Alberto Conejero. Following its premiere on Wednesday, the production will be performed again this Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the island's capital.
The play, starring Marta Nieto, Cecilia Freire, and Amaia Lizarralde, follows three sisters who reunite at a coastal home on a Greek island after the death of their mother. Their mother, a former classics teacher who had moved from Spain to Greece, leaves behind a complex legacy that forces the sisters to reflect on their own lives and choices.
Beyond the family story, Conejero’s work reflects a growing trend in Spanish theater that uses the humanities to navigate modern uncertainty. By focusing on the sisters' journey, the play explores themes of resilience and personal reinvention, offering a hopeful perspective on grief rather than a purely tragic one.
Tickets for the performance are available at www.cajacanarias.com. The show is part of the "Spring at the Foundation" series, which aims to enrich the island’s cultural life by featuring contemporary authors who bridge the gap between classical traditions and the issues facing audiences today.
