Airport Arrests End Tenerife Burglary Spree

Tenerife police arrested two Georgian men at the airport last Thursday, dismantling a suspected burglary ring accused of targeting empty homes across the island.

Police in Tenerife have broken up a group of suspected burglars whose crimes had worried many people in different towns across the island. This operation ended last Thursday when two Georgian men, aged 30 and 37, were arrested at Tenerife South Airport. They were trying to leave the island with some of the items they were accused of stealing.

These arrests stopped a series of crimes that had affected areas covered by both the Civil Guard (like Granadilla de Abona, Arico, Fasnia, Güímar, and Candelaria) and the National Police (including Santa Cruz de Tenerife). The suspected criminals targeted empty homes in the mornings. One person, dressed in dark clothes and carrying a backpack, would walk around watching houses. An accomplice would follow slowly in a car. This way, they could check if anyone was home by ringing doorbells or looking through windows before trying to break in. There are reports of attempted break-ins in towns like Arico Viejo and Las Eras, in Fasnia.

The public played a big part in helping both police forces with their joint investigation. People living in the affected areas gave police photos and videos of the suspects and their cars. This information was vital for identifying and finding the people involved. Now, investigators are looking at the recovered items and comparing them with victim reports. Their goal is to return the stolen goods to their owners and understand the full scope of the crimes.
