The book fair has kicked off in La Laguna, Tenerife, with over a hundred events, transforming the Plaza del Cristo into the epicenter of the island's literary life.

A book fair kicked off in La Laguna, Tenerife, on Thursday. Until Sunday, the Plaza del Cristo will become the epicenter of the island's literary life. 50 bookstores and publishing houses are located here, and the program includes more than a hundred events to promote reading.

The opening was attended by the mayor of the city, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, the head of the Tenerife Booksellers Association, Remedios Sosa, the councilor for culture, Adrián del Castillo, and other representatives of the local authorities. They inspected the book stands.

Luis Yeray Gutiérrez assured that the city council supports this fair. Thanks to the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Cabildo of Tenerife, the city is becoming the center of book culture in the islands.

"Plaza del Cristo is an ideal place for this fair, which we will continue to support. After all, supporting culture is an investment in society," said the mayor of La Laguna. He thanked the writers, the Tenerife Booksellers Association, and the employees of the cultural department for their work.

Remedios Sosa noted: "We are part of the state network of book fairs and are glad that La Laguna attracts more and more bookstores, publishing houses and presentations every year." She emphasized that book fairs are a great way to encourage people to read, and added that the fair's program is designed for all ages and interests. She jokingly called Plaza del Cristo the Plaza of Culture.

The program includes more than a hundred events: literary meetings, master classes, family entertainment. Among the guests are famous authors: Sabina Urraca, Pedro Torrijos, Amaya Arrazola, Cristina Oñoro, Ana Jaren, Julia Pero, Juan and Javier Gallego, Miguel Fernández and Daniel María.

This year, the fair honors the memory of writers Luis Alemani, Fernando Senante and Jaime Mira, who passed away this year. New names from the Literary School and local publishing houses, which are the future of island literature, will also be presented.

Meetings with writers, presentations and discussions will take place in the Alonso Quesada, Isla and Zona Cero areas. School workshops, family events, technology presentations and exhibitions will be held in the Diversity Zone (Hotel Hall and Lino de los Sueños). The fair also has a gastronomic area and a stage for concerts, theater, dance, circus and street performances. The program includes the Clownbaret (FIC), La Noche de los Cuentos and Loba festivals.

This year's fair also includes companies and organizations: Cajasiete, Spar Tenerife, Heineken, Fuentealta, Imprenta Reyes, Fedeco, Lapanera, Colectivo Loba, Festival Época, Uve de Vida, Troysteatro, La Gaveta Literaria and Garabato Cultural. Detailed information and the program are available on the website www.ferialibrotenerife.es.

The book fair has been held since 1988 and is a meeting place for readers, authors and publishers. In 2021, it moved to La Laguna, which became a new page in its history.
