Aguaviva Magazine Launches Summer Issue Focusing on Canary Islands’ Social Challenges
The Aguaviva magazine launches its latest summer issue at Tenerife's Librería del Cabildo this Tuesday, featuring a collection of works that explore the Canary Islands' pressing social, environmental, and literary challenges.
The Canary Islands' cultural scene grows this Tuesday with the launch of the summer issue of Aguaviva magazine. The event takes place at 6:30 p.m. at the Librería del Cabildo in Tenerife, where the editorial team will discuss the magazine’s latest focus: the concept of territory.
Published by the Aguaviva Cultural Association, the magazine has become a key platform for literary creation in the archipelago. The editorial team—Ana Marante González, Andrea Sánchez Villamandos, María Gómez García, and Sophia Hidalgo Hernández—will present an issue that moves beyond literature to explore island sociology. Through various contributors, the magazine examines pressing local issues, including the housing crisis, traffic congestion, the climate emergency, and social exclusion.
The issue also features a diverse range of topics, from a study on invasive species to a literary review of Valeriano Weyler Ramos’s Garafía. Featuring illustrations by Julia Gavilán, the magazine continues its mission of highlighting local talent through an inclusive, intergenerational lens.
Hosted by the Librería del Cabildo—a space managed by the island’s Department of Culture—the event highlights the institution's commitment to supporting independent cultural projects. By providing a platform for Aguaviva, the island council helps foster a deeper conversation about identity and the complex challenges currently facing the archipelago.
