Tenerife South Airport: Aena Promises Greening After Criticism
Aena has responded to criticism regarding the neglected state of gardens at Tenerife and other Canary Islands airports by announcing a tender for gardening services worth over 800,000 euros.
Aena, the company responsible for our airports, has responded to criticism regarding the neglected gardens and litter around Tenerife South Airport.
They plan to announce a tender for landscaping services as early as September. This concerns not only the airport in Granadilla de Abona, but also the airports of Tenerife North, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote.
The total value of the tender is €804,401, according to information on the Aena website.
To ensure safety at Tenerife South Airport, Aena has already begun cleaning the most problematic areas. This is being done using a simplified procedure until the new contract is signed.
The Center for Tourist Initiatives (CIT) of the South, which recently drew attention to the problem by publishing photographs of neglected green areas, reported that Aena had contacted them. The company promised that cleaning of the external areas would begin yesterday, and that garden maintenance would be restored in the coming weeks.
CIT South noted that the technical and legal obstacles that led to the terrible condition of the green areas have been temporarily removed. They thanked everyone for their efforts and expressed hope for the restoration of normal airport operations.
Other organizations, such as the Circle of Entrepreneurs and Professionals of Southern Tenerife (CEST) and the Forum of Friends of Southern Tenerife (FAST), have also criticized the neglected state of the green areas and the problems with unsanitary conditions.
