Aena Suspends Coach Access Fees at Tenerife South Airport Until December

Aena has suspended fees for coach access at Tenerife South Airport until December, marking a significant change in how the airport manages traffic. This decision follows pressure from local government and the transport industry after operational problems arose earlier this month.

The move comes after a meeting held this morning between Aena, the Tenerife Island Council, the regional government, and transport industry representatives. During this five-month transition period, buses will still pass through the access barriers, but they will not be charged. This time will be used to test whether the current 60-minute limit for passenger pick-ups is practical before a final system is introduced on January 1, 2027.

While the recent traffic congestion has eased and operations at the 75 bus bays ran smoothly this Tuesday, the temporary setup presents its own challenges. Drivers are currently required to use a secondary waiting area on the upper level to avoid potential fees for exceeding time limits at the terminal.

This alternative area currently lacks basic amenities like shade and restrooms. Aena has committed to improving these facilities to better support drivers while a permanent plan is developed. This resolution highlights the ongoing challenge of balancing efficient airport traffic management with the needs of the transport sector, which is essential for the island's tourism.
