Aena is investing over seven million euros to soundproof 802 homes near Tenerife South Airport as part of an ongoing initiative to mitigate noise pollution for local residents.

Aena is prioritizing noise reduction near Tenerife South Airport, allocating over seven million euros to soundproof 802 homes in the surrounding area. This initiative is part of the company’s Acoustic Insulation Plan, which aims to minimize noise from flight operations for residents in Granadilla de Abona and San Miguel de Abona.

Managing the impact of air traffic on nearby neighborhoods remains a significant logistical task. Currently, 2,515 homes—1,515 in Granadilla and 1,000 in San Miguel—are eligible for these improvements. However, many residents have yet to participate; 841 eligible property owners have not yet submitted a request, and the project’s management office is working to encourage further engagement.

Progress is steady: 409 homes have already been soundproofed, with 81 in Granadilla and 328 in San Miguel. Work is currently underway on another 750 properties. Additionally, 379 homes have recently been approved for the program, and acoustic measurements are being finalized for another 137.

Aena has also set aside funds for 31 more homes, pending owner consent. Because the program is voluntary, Aena continues to coordinate closely with local residents to ensure these investments effectively improve living conditions near the airport.
