Aemet Issues Wind and Rain Warning for Tenerife and Western Canary Islands
Aemet has issued a weather warning for Tenerife and the western Canary Islands this Thursday, May 14, as northerly winds bring cooler temperatures, cloud cover, and the risk of strong gusts.
Tenerife will see unsettled weather this Thursday, May 14, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Northerly winds are bringing cooler temperatures and cloud cover across the island, with a risk of strong gusts in certain areas.
Across the western islands, the day will start and end with clouds on the northern slopes, while the south will see cloud cover increase as the afternoon progresses. There is a chance of light, scattered rain, which is most likely in the north but possible elsewhere later in the day.
Winds will be moderate, but could become quite strong. In Tenerife, the Anaga region and the central summits are on alert for high gusts during the afternoon and early morning. Similar conditions are expected in La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, particularly on slopes facing north, east, and west, though southern coastal areas should remain calmer.
Temperatures will remain fairly steady, with only a slight drop expected at higher altitudes. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures will range from 17°C to 25°C. San Sebastián de La Gomera can expect 18°C to 23°C, while Santa Cruz de La Palma will see 16°C to 22°C. Valverde, in El Hierro, will be the coolest, ranging between 12°C and 16°C. These conditions are typical for this time of year, as the islands' terrain heavily influences local rainfall and wind patterns.
