Aemet Issues Weather Alerts for Canary Islands as Strong Winds and Rough Seas Expected

The Canary Islands’ typical stable weather will be interrupted this Saturday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Strong trade winds have prompted authorities to issue weather alerts due to hazardous conditions for coastal activities and navigation.
A yellow alert for rough seas is in place for the entire province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the island of Gran Canaria. Forecasters expect choppy to rough waters with swells reaching up to two meters. This is caused by northeast winds blowing at force 5 to 6, with gusts potentially reaching force 7 in coastal areas and channels between the islands.
The weather will vary depending on the location. Northern areas of the higher islands can expect more cloud cover and a chance of light rain early in the day, while the eastern islands may see high-altitude haze.
Temperatures will also vary across the region. While mid-to-high elevations will see a drop in temperature, coastal areas and the southern parts of the central and eastern islands will remain milder. This contrast highlights how the islands' unique terrain and wind patterns significantly impact local safety conditions.
