Aemet Issues Warning for Strong Winds and Rising Temperatures in Canary Islands

The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecast for this Wednesday, predicting a day of contrasting temperatures and stronger winds across the Canary Islands. These conditions are driven by the trade winds, which are expected to pick up significantly by the afternoon, particularly in exposed areas.

In Tenerife, the weather will vary depending on the location and altitude. The north will remain cloudy below 1,200 meters, with a slight chance of light rain early in the day. Meanwhile, mid-altitude areas and the south will see temperatures climb, with the metropolitan area and the southern slopes reaching highs near 30°C. In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 30°C.

Wind will be the main factor today. After a moderate start, northeast winds will strengthen notably from midday onwards. This will affect sea conditions, with Aemet warning that wind speeds will increase from force 4-5 to force 6 on the high seas. Expect rough to very rough seas, with a northerly swell producing waves between one and two meters. Caution is advised for all nautical and coastal activities.

These strong wind episodes are common in the Canary Islands. Residents and visitors should remain alert, as the combination of high temperatures on land and stronger winds at sea can impact port operations and safety at the beach.
