Aemet Forecasts Weather Shift and Strong Winds for Canary Islands
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a shift to cloudier weather and stronger winds across the Tenerife province this Wednesday, with light rain possible in northern areas.
The stable weather that has defined the last few days in the Canary Islands is set to change this Wednesday, with cloudier skies expected across the Tenerife province, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). This shift will be driven by winds that could become quite strong at higher altitudes.
In Tenerife, the day will start with clear skies and some high clouds. By the afternoon, cloud cover will increase, particularly in the north, where light rain is possible by the end of the day. Temperatures will remain steady, with a slight rise, reaching between 18°C and 23°C in the capital. While coastal areas will see moderate northeasterly winds shifting to the north, the central peaks will face stronger southwesterly gusts.
A similar pattern is expected across the rest of the province:
- La Gomera: Skies will turn cloudy by midday, with temperatures holding between 18°C and 23°C.
- La Palma: There is a higher chance of light rain on the northern and eastern slopes during the afternoon, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 22°C.
- El Hierro: It will be cooler, with temperatures between 13°C and 19°C. Skies will become increasingly cloudy, with a low chance of scattered rain in northern and eastern areas.
This weather is typical of the trade winds, which regulate temperatures and humidity across the islands. Aemet advises caution for those heading to the mountains, as the islands' volcanic terrain can intensify wind gusts, creating potentially hazardous conditions even when the weather at the coast remains mild.
