Aemet Forecasts Weather Shift and Increased Cloud Cover for Canary Islands
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts a shift in Canary Islands weather this Thursday, bringing increased cloud cover and potential light rain to northern slopes while southern areas remain sunny.
The stable weather that has defined the last few days in the Canary Islands is set to change this Thursday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While the shift will be moderate, it will be most noticeable in northern Tenerife, where trade winds will bring more humidity to mid-altitude areas.
Weather models suggest a split in conditions across the island. While the central peaks will remain clear, areas below 1,200 to 1,300 meters in the north can expect more cloud cover. There is a chance of light, scattered rain in the northeast early in the day, though skies should clear as the afternoon progresses.
A similar pattern is expected across the rest of the archipelago: northern slopes of higher elevations will likely be cloudy, while southern areas will enjoy more sunshine. Aemet notes that while light drizzle is possible in higher areas early on, the probability remains low.
Temperatures will stay stable, ranging between 22 and 27 degrees Celsius. The wind will play a key role in how the weather feels; a light northerly breeze is expected, which will strengthen in the northwest and east of Tenerife, as well as across the islands by the afternoon. In higher areas, a moderate westerly wind will persist, reflecting the typical seasonal weather patterns where the islands' terrain dictates local cloud and rainfall distribution.
