Aemet Forecasts Unsettled Weather and Strong Winds for Canary Islands

Source: El Día

The Canary Islands face unsettled weather this Tuesday, with Aemet forecasting intermittent rain, cooling temperatures, and strong winds on Tenerife's central peaks.

The Canary Islands will experience unsettled weather this Tuesday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). While rain will be intermittent across most of the islands, it could become moderate in parts of Tenerife, particularly during the afternoon.

Temperatures will vary significantly between the coast and inland areas. While coastal lows will remain stable or rise slightly, daytime highs are expected to drop, with the most noticeable cooling occurring inland. In Tenerife, temperatures will range from 21°C to 28°C.

Wind will be a key factor at higher altitudes. A light to moderate northerly breeze is expected across the islands, but winds will strengthen significantly on the central peaks of Tenerife by the afternoon. Aemet has warned of potentially strong gusts in these areas, which contrasts with the calmer conditions expected on the peaks of other islands.

Cloud cover will dominate the western islands, with a high chance of light rain on northern slopes during the morning. In the eastern islands, skies are expected to clear as the day progresses, though isolated drizzle remains possible in Gran Canaria by evening. This weather pattern is typical of the trade winds, where the islands' terrain influences local rainfall and microclimates. Authorities advise caution in high mountain areas due to the expected increase in wind speeds.
