Aemet Forecast: Stable Weather and Rising Temperatures Expected Across Canary Islands
The Canary Islands will experience stable weather with rising temperatures and localized cloud cover on May 11, though strong gusts are expected in the high peaks of Tenerife.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has released its forecast for Monday, May 11. The Canary Islands can expect generally stable weather, though local geography will play a role in conditions across the archipelago. This information is particularly useful for those working in agriculture and maritime transport, where wind and temperature changes have a direct impact.
The day will start with clear skies, but clouds are expected to build up on the northern and eastern slopes by the afternoon. This is a common pattern in the islands, where moisture gets trapped by the terrain, potentially leading to light, scattered rain in higher areas. Temperatures are set to rise moderately across most of the islands, with the warmest conditions expected in inland areas and on the western slopes.
Wind patterns will vary by region. The eastern islands will see light, variable winds, while the western islands will experience a light northwesterly breeze. The exception is the high peaks of Tenerife, where Aemet has warned of strong southwesterly gusts, contrasting with the calm conditions elsewhere.
At sea, conditions will remain mostly stable with light swells. Wave heights will differ between the two provinces: the western islands can expect waves of around one meter, while the eastern islands will see waves between two and three meters. Visibility may occasionally drop in areas where light showers occur.
Temperatures across the capitals will remain mild:
- Santa Cruz de Tenerife: 18–24 °C
- San Sebastián de la Gomera: 18–24 °C
- Santa Cruz de La Palma: 17–23 °C
- Valverde: 12–19 °C
- Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: 18–23 °C, with clouds increasing throughout the afternoon.
