Aemet Forecast: Canary Islands See Temperature Contrast as Trade Winds Persist
The State Meteorological Agency forecasts stable, mild temperatures for the western Canary Islands while predicting a rise to 30°C in parts of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura driven by trade winds.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has updated its forecast for the Canary Islands, predicting stable temperatures in the western islands and a noticeable contrast in the east. These conditions are being driven by the trade winds, which continue to influence cloud cover and temperatures along the coasts and at mid-altitudes.
In the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, temperatures are expected to remain mild. In the capital, Tenerife, thermometers will range between 20°C and 26°C, while San Sebastián de La Gomera will see highs of 27°C. Santa Cruz de La Palma is set for a slight drop in temperature, particularly in higher areas, with a range of 19°C to 25°C. In Valverde, temperatures will stay between 17°C and 24°C. Northwest winds will be light to moderate, though stronger gusts on the peaks of La Palma are expected to ease as the day goes on.
In contrast, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura will see temperatures climb, potentially reaching 30°C in inland areas. While these islands will start the day with some cloud cover, it is expected to clear as the day progresses.
Low-level clouds, which typically affect the northern slopes below 1,100 meters, remain the main factor in the region's weather. This pattern—where humidity gathers overnight and in the early morning—is a common feature of the islands' climate, with the local landscape playing a key role in how clouds and winds are distributed across the terrain.
