Industrial wood and cork companies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife have formed Aemaco, a new association under Femete, to address sector challenges like skilled labor shortages and technological advancement.

Aemaco, a new association for industrial wood and cork companies in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has officially started. This move aims to better represent and grow a sector that's important to the Canary Islands' economy. The new group, which is part of Femete (a federation for metal and new technologies companies), will focus on organizing, protecting the interests of, and helping modernize wood and cork businesses in the province. This was announced after its first board meeting.

Aemaco has identified several key challenges. These include a persistent lack of skilled workers, the urgent need for companies to update their technology, and the fact that institutions don't fully recognize the industry's economic, social, and environmental benefits. These problems, common to many traditional industries in Spain, highlight the need for a united voice. This voice can help bridge the gap between available training and what the job market needs, and encourage investment in new technologies.

Francisco Abraham Guzmán García, Aemaco's president, said that creating the association answers a long-standing call from businesses. They wanted a single voice to tackle staff shortages and improve infrastructure. Guzmán García stressed that this move will lead to stronger business unity and better communication with government bodies, promoting more solid and lasting development in Tenerife.

Being part of Femete is seen as crucial for Aemaco to achieve its goals. Femete's president, Juan Antonio Jiménez Arranz, offered his federation's support. He pointed out that this partnership will give wood and cork companies strong representation, training, expert advice, and a valuable network of contacts. These are all vital for them to compete effectively and take part in social and economic discussions.

The members of Aemaco's Board of Directors are: Francisco Abraham Guzmán García (President), Manuel Lois Vilasuso (Vice-President), José Antonio Mirabal Méndez (Secretary), Carolina Martín Díaz (Treasurer), and Dimas Díaz González, Laura Ortega Virumbrales, Javier González Mesa, and Josué Pérez Ascanio (Board Members).
