Adeje has a record low unemployment rate among the cities of the Canary Islands
Adeje in the Canary Islands has recorded the lowest unemployment rate among cities with a population of over 40,000, thanks to effective employment policies and professional support.
In June 2025, unemployment in the town of Adeje in the Canary Islands fell to 7.49%. This means that out of 50,929 residents, 1,923 people were looking for work. And this is the best indicator among all cities on the islands with a population of over 40,000! In July, the situation improved even further – there were already 1,895 unemployed.
Alberto Álvarez Jiménez, who is responsible for economic development and employment, says that this is all thanks to the coordinated work of the local employment exchange, professional advice for job seekers, and a large number of enterprises in the city. He added that the reduction in unemployment is the result of a long-term policy that focuses on education and professionalism.
According to the local employment observatory (Obecan), in July there were 28 fewer unemployed people than in June. Among those looking for work, 40.32% are men and 59.68% are women. The majority of the unemployed (almost 60%) are people over 45 years old, 35% are between 25 and 44 years old, and only 5.33% are young people under 25 years old.
