Adeje City Council's municipal website is back online after a cyberattack on January 20 temporarily took it offline, with officials confirming no citizen data was accessed or stolen.

Adeje City Council has announced its municipal website is back online after a cyberattack on Tuesday, January 20, which forced it offline due to unauthorized access.

Officials said the website was back up and running by 8:00 AM on Wednesday, January 21, after being thoroughly checked over several hours.

The City Council confirmed that no citizen data was accessed or stolen, as the site doesn't store private user data.

The problem was discovered yesterday and only impacted the public information website at adeje.es, which only displays public information about the town.

The City Council explained that the unauthorized access was done by what seems to be a security expert who checks public websites for weaknesses.

The council's online services portal, where residents handle official tasks, was never affected.

No personal data belonging to external users was leaked. The only information affected was related to professionals who work or have worked on the website's administration, and this was not personal data.

As a precaution, the City Council temporarily took the website offline and redirected visitors, directing people to its official social media for updates while the issue was being fixed.

With the service now restored, the City Council has apologized for any inconvenience caused.
