Adeje to Build New €5.2M Police Station
Adeje, Tenerife, is investing €5.27 million in a new, energy-efficient, and accessible police station, funded by Next Generation EU, to modernize public safety services for residents and tourists by December 2026.
Adeje, a busy tourist town in Tenerife, is set to modernize its public safety services with the construction of a new police station. The town council announced that the project, which will be built on the current site in Fañabé, aims to improve the operational capacity and quality of service for its more than 50,000 registered residents, as well as the many tourists who visit.
This initiative, part of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and funded by Next Generation EU funds, represents an investment of 5,278,165 euros. The work is expected to be completed by December 2026. To ensure that essential Local Police and Civil Protection services can continue during most of the construction, the project has been planned in two phases.
The renovation includes a complete overhaul of the building, with functional improvements on all floors. The basement will be expanded to provide exclusive parking for police vehicles, a change designed to help officers respond to incidents more quickly. On the ground floor, spaces will be reorganized to accommodate Local Police services and changing rooms for volunteer firefighters. The first floor will feature new administrative and meeting areas, improving internal coordination and resource management.
A key focus of the reform is the building's energy efficiency. The plan is to reduce energy consumption by over 30%, aiming for it to be a nearly zero-energy building. This will be achieved through the installation of high-performance windows and doors, new thermal insulation, improved waterproofing for the roof and facade, and an air conditioning system that does not use fossil fuels. Additionally, green roofs will be incorporated to help with climate change adaptation and environmental sustainability.
The renovation also addresses accessibility, removing physical and sensory barriers to ensure everyone can use the building. It will include elevators, ramps, accessible routes, and specific signage, all complying with current regulations to offer an inclusive service to all citizens.
Mercedes Vargas Delgado, Adeje's Councillor for Security, emphasized the importance of this project for "reinforcing essential protection and security services in Adeje." She highlighted the commitment to provide the Local Police and Civil Protection with modern, accessible, and functional facilities, not only to improve services for the public but also to equip the police force with the best possible resources.
