The Adeje City Council and the Canary Islands government have signed an agreement to finally modernize CEIP Tijoco Bajo, ending a two-decade delay by funding and constructing a new annex to replace modular classrooms.

The long-awaited modernization of CEIP Tijoco Bajo in Adeje is finally moving into its final phase. The local City Council and the Canary Islands Ministry of Education have signed a collaboration agreement to restart a project that has been stalled for over twenty years.

Under this new multi-year agreement, the regional government will fund the construction of a new annex building, while the local council will manage the actual building work. This partnership aims to resolve the school’s long-standing space issues, which have forced students to use modular classrooms and external municipal facilities for years.

Adolfo Alonso, the Councilor for Education, confirmed that the original plans have been fully updated to meet modern standards. The project includes building new facilities and redesigning existing areas to improve accessibility for everyone. The school will also be fitted with new shaded areas to help keep the classrooms cooler, addressing the challenges of the local climate.

This agreement marks the end of a long period of uncertainty. Although the council provided the land for the expansion two decades ago, a lack of funding had previously prevented the project from moving forward. With the agreement now signed and the tender process beginning soon, the municipal government expects construction to start before the end of the current term, fulfilling a key promise to improve the area's educational infrastructure.
