The municipality of Adeje in Tenerife has launched a major aid initiative to support communities affected by the earthquake that struck Venezuela on June 24. Local officials have designed a plan that goes beyond immediate emergency relief, aiming to provide long-term assistance to those in need.
The core of this effort is a €25,000 donation approved by the Municipal Plenary. These funds will be distributed through established humanitarian organizations already working on the ground in Venezuela. Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga emphasized that this contribution reflects the deep historical and cultural ties between the Canary Islands and Venezuela, urging the community to maintain its support well after the initial crisis fades.
To increase the impact of this aid, the City Council has opened a dedicated bank account for private donations from individuals, businesses, and social organizations. A working group—including the Canarian-Venezuelan Union, the Adeje Business Association, the Rotary Club, and other local entities—has been formed to ensure all contributions are managed transparently and efficiently.
The council is also launching a public awareness campaign via Radio Sur Adeje and its official digital channels to keep the cause in the spotlight. Furthermore, the local government has formally requested that regional, national, and European authorities step up their international cooperation efforts. By pushing for larger aid packages and reconstruction support, Adeje aims to ensure that the response to the disaster is part of a coordinated, high-level international effort.
