Adeje Launches €2.6 Million Sustainable Urban Link Project
Adeje has launched a €2.6 million sustainable infrastructure project to connect the Fañabé and Miraverde neighborhoods with new cycling and pedestrian paths designed to reduce car reliance.
Adeje is transforming its urban landscape with a new sustainable travel route designed to better connect the Fañabé and Miraverde neighborhoods. The €2.6 million project is part of a long-term plan to encourage walking and cycling while reducing the area's reliance on cars.
Managed by the local Works and Services department, the 1.1-kilometer project will run from the Miraverde pedestrian bridge to Avenida San Borondón. Over the next 14 months, the area will be revitalized with new street furniture, outdoor fitness zones, and improved public spaces, including the local church square and the existing viewpoint.
The design focuses on modern, eco-friendly infrastructure. It includes an intelligent, remote-controlled lighting system that meets current energy efficiency and light pollution standards. The route itself will feature a three-meter-wide bike lane and a two-meter-wide pedestrian path, with additional sections designed for shared use.
This is only the first phase of a larger vision. Mayor José Miguel Rodríguez Fraga’s administration is already planning a second stage, which would include a new footbridge over the ravine to connect Fañabé with the Los Menceyes roundabout, pending future funding.
To keep disruption to a minimum, the construction team is required to maintain traffic and pedestrian access throughout the work using a dedicated signaling system. This project reflects a broader shift in Canary Island tourist towns, which are increasingly investing in accessible, non-motorized infrastructure to improve daily life for residents.
