Adeje Hosts International Conference on Marine Sustainability and Circular Economy
The International ESG Sustainability, Blue Economy, and Circular Economy Conference in Adeje is gathering experts and officials to address marine conservation and sustainable resource management in the Canary Islands.
The International ESG Sustainability, Blue Economy, and Circular Economy Conference is currently underway in Adeje, with a primary focus on regenerative production and protecting marine ecosystems. Organizers, Farra Events, designed the sessions to connect the public sector, businesses, and the scientific community to tackle the environmental challenges facing the Canary Islands.
The conference goes beyond theory by incorporating hands-on action. On March 7, a team of ten nautical professionals spent six hours cleaning up Puerto Colón, removing 10.15 kilograms of waste. The haul included 5.5 kg of glass, 2 kg of paper and cardboard, 1.65 kg of packaging, and 1 kg of other debris. While these figures highlight the human impact on port infrastructure, the relatively low amount of waste suggests that environmental awareness among port users is improving.
The event continues on March 17 at the Adeje Tourism Development Center with a forum on ocean policy. Moderated by photographer Francis Pérez, the panel includes Chilean Senator Ricardo Lagos Weber, researcher César Bordehore, and specialists Max Bello, Brittany Lynn Bello, and Julio Chamorro Solís. They will discuss how sustainable sea management can drive economic growth for coastal regions.
The conference concludes on March 19 with a session on the circular economy, coordinated by Vanessa Collado Jerez. Experts—including Íñigo José Núñez Quintana, David González Montañez, Francisco Valiño Cela, Jose Javier González Guzmán, and Javier Rodríguez Suárez—will explore resource optimization and waste prevention. This is a critical topic for the Canary Islands, where the challenges of island life make efficient waste management and material life cycles essential for a sustainable future. The event is supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the Adeje City Council, and the Cabildo of Tenerife.
