Adeje council has unanimously decided to replace traditional fireworks with less harmful alternatives like drone shows and silent fireworks at town events, aiming for safer and more inclusive celebrations.

Adeje will stop using traditional fireworks at its town events. This decision was made unanimously by the council. Instead, they plan to use less harmful alternatives like drone light shows, silent fireworks, laser projections, or LED lighting. These options don't cause the same negative problems as regular fireworks.

For any events where explosive fireworks are still used, the council will take steps to reduce their impact. These steps include announcing the schedule in advance so people can avoid unnecessary exposure, recommending and providing ear protectors for vulnerable individuals, and setting up special quiet zones for people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and their families.

The council's unanimous decision came from a proposal by Coalición Canaria. This proposal aims to gradually reduce and eventually stop the use of explosive fireworks at public events organized by the town. The goal is to create celebrations that are safer, more inclusive, and respectful of residents, animals, and the environment.

Council member Aythami Amaro championed this initiative. He explained that it comes from increasing public concern about how explosive fireworks negatively affect public health, safety, animal welfare, and the environment. Amaro highlighted that the extreme noise particularly impacts the elderly, children, and individuals with autism spectrum disorders or post-traumatic stress. It also causes anxiety and danger for both pets and wild animals.

Aythami Amaro stated that this council agreement "shows a shared commitment to making Adeje more inclusive, sustainable, and dedicated to everyone's well-being." He also sees it as a positive step towards public celebrations that better suit the needs of today's society.
