Adeje Civil Guard Station Upgraded to 'Main Post' to Boost Security
The Civil Guard detachment in Adeje is being upgraded to a "main post," bringing increased staffing, specialized investigation units, and enhanced leadership to bolster security in the southern Tenerife tourist hub.
Security in southern Tenerife is set for a major upgrade following the announcement that the Civil Guard detachment in Adeje is being promoted. Local media reports that the unit will move from an "ordinary post" to a "main post," a change that brings more staff and specialized resources.
This new status allows for the creation of departments that were previously unavailable. Key additions include a dedicated investigation unit with plainclothes officers and a new office focused entirely on handling citizen complaints. The unit’s leadership will also be upgraded; while it was previously led by a sergeant first class, it will now be headed by an officer—likely a lieutenant—giving the station greater decision-making authority.
This move reflects Adeje’s status as a vital economic and tourist hub for the Canary Islands. The decision, announced during the Civil Guard’s 182nd-anniversary celebrations, follows long-term planning between the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Command and the local council. Adeje now joins other "main posts" in the region, including those in Playa de las Américas, Granadilla de Abona, and Guía de Isora.
Local security officials have welcomed the change, noting that more staff and specialized units will lead to faster responses to crime and better coordination with the Local Police. This partnership has already proven effective in areas like supporting victims of gender-based violence, where protection protocols have been improved based on risk levels.
While the final staffing numbers are still being confirmed, this upgrade strengthens a relationship between the Civil Guard and Adeje that dates back to 1916. Over the last century, the force has evolved from its original site on La Crucita Street to its current facilities, which continue to be updated to meet the needs of the town’s growing population.
