Adeje Blaze Destroys Three Cars, Probe Underway
Three cars were destroyed and a fourth damaged by fire early Saturday morning in Adeje, southern Tenerife, prompting a Civil Guard investigation into the incident's cause and responsibility.
Early Saturday morning, three cars were destroyed by fire and a fourth was damaged at the back in southern Tenerife.
The fire happened in the town of Adeje. Firefighters from the Tenerife Consortium and Adeje volunteers, along with local police, worked to put out the blaze. It occurred near the El Cerco bus stop and Pedro Zerolo park.
The destroyed vehicles were a Renault Clio, a van, and a Peugeot 208. A Citroën C3 Cactus sustained damage to its rear. To help firefighters, local officers closed the street where the fire took place.
Since Saturday morning, the Civil Guard's Territorial Judicial Police Team from Playa de las Américas has been investigating what caused the fire and trying to find whoever was responsible. An officer took several photos of the damaged vehicles earlier today. Because of how serious the incident is, experts from the Judicial Police's Forensic Laboratory will carry out a detailed analysis to see if any accelerant was used to start the fire.
In the early hours, some residents reported hearing explosions from the burning vehicles.
This isn't the first time such an incident has happened in Adeje recently. Tenerife Firefighters reported that early last Tuesday, two hybrid cars and a motorcycle were destroyed by fire outside a house in the El Galeón area. That fire took place outside townhouses on Príncipe Pelinor Avenue, close to the municipal football field and just a few minutes' walk from where Saturday's car fires occurred.
