Adeje Begins Renovation of Plaza Charco del Valle in Los Menores

Work has officially begun on the renovation of Plaza Charco del Valle in the Los Menores district of Adeje, Tenerife. Managed by the local Department of Works and Services, the project aims to revitalize the area by creating a modern, functional public space for the community.

The new design features a circular layout, chosen to better suit the local climate. A key addition is a wooden pergola with a specialized fabric cover, providing much-needed shade from the sun. The square will also include a children’s play area that makes clever use of the site’s natural slope. To improve the local environment, the council is adding rock gardens and drought-resistant plants, all maintained by an efficient drip irrigation system to conserve water.

Accessibility and safety are at the heart of the renovation. The project removes old architectural barriers, ensuring the square is easy to navigate for everyone, including those with reduced mobility. At night, the area will be kept safe and well-lit with integrated lighting built into the central structure and street furniture.

This project is part of a wider effort by the Adeje City Council to bring public facilities up to modern standards for energy efficiency and accessibility. By adding better drainage and spaces for all ages, the council hopes to provide the residents of Los Menores with a welcoming meeting place that significantly improves their quality of life.
