The Santa Cruz Adein Tenerife wheelchair basketball team has received official recognition from the Island Council following their BSR Cup victory and historic debut in the Eurocup 3.

Inclusive sports in the Canary Islands are gaining significant momentum, helping to raise the profile of athletes with disabilities on both a national and European level.

The Santa Cruz Adein Tenerife team recently received official recognition from the Island Council (Cabildo) following their BSR Cup victory in Móstoles last February, where they defeated Sureste Gran Canaria 59-49.

Supported by the CB Canarias Foundation, this success marks a historic milestone for the club: their recent debut in the Eurocup 3, which held its group stage last weekend in Vélez, Málaga. The attendance of Cabildo Vice President Lope Afonso, alongside Sports and Social Action leaders Yolanda Moliné and Águeda Fumero, at the Sergio Rodríguez Pavilion highlights the island’s commitment to these sports, viewing them as vital tools for social integration.

On the court, the team is now focused on the final phase of the Superliga. They currently sit in tenth place in the top national division. Adein Tenerife’s progress reflects the increasing professionalization of wheelchair basketball in Spain. Under the guidance of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), the sport has seen a rise in technical and tactical standards, establishing Spanish clubs as leaders on the European stage.
