Acte Canarias Launches Three New Literary Competitions
The Canary Islands Cultural Association of Writers (Acte Canarias) has launched three new literary competitions, including the eighth Amparo Walls Hernández Literary Prize, with a submission deadline of May 30.
The Canary Islands Cultural Association of Writers (Acte Canarias) is boosting the local literary scene with the launch of three new writing competitions. The highlight is the eighth edition of the Amparo Walls Hernández Literary Prize, which focuses on novellas.
This competition is open to adult authors living in the Canary Islands. The winning entry will be published in a run of 100 copies, with the author receiving half of them. To qualify, submissions must be original, unpublished, between 10,000 and 20,000 words long, and not currently entered in any other contests.
The deadline for all submissions is May 30 at 11:59 p.m. The winners for this prize, as well as the 5th Dulce Díaz Marrero Young Poetry Prize and the 3rd Balbina Rivero Social Poetry Prize, will be announced on July 20.
These types of awards are vital for the Spanish literary community, providing a platform for emerging writers to gain visibility in a competitive publishing market. Acte Canarias has published the full rules on its website to ensure a transparent and fair selection process. Through these three contests, the association continues its commitment to supporting regional literature, from long-form fiction to poetry.
