Abraham Cupeiro Brings Ancient Musical History to Canary Islands Tour
Multi-instrumentalist Abraham Cupeiro is touring the Canary Islands with his educational show, Resonating in the Past, which explores human history through the performance of reconstructed ancient musical instruments.
Abraham Cupeiro is currently touring the Canary Islands with a unique project that brings the history of music to life. As noted by the Reislas Festival, Cupeiro is a performer, composer, and craftsman who uses his work to show how musical instruments help us understand the evolution of human civilizations. While this study—known as organology—is usually confined to academic settings, Cupeiro brings it to the stage in an engaging, educational way.
His show, Resonating in the Past, moves away from the formality of a traditional concert. Instead, he uses a blend of storytelling, history, and humor to show how instruments are more than just objects; they are witnesses to the eras in which they were created. The audience is introduced to a wide range of global instruments, including the Celtic carnyx, the Roman cornu, the Armenian duduk, the Chinese hulusi, and various Persian wind instruments. Many of these have been reconstructed by Cupeiro himself, adding a layer of technical authenticity to the performance.
Following stops in La Palma and Gran Canaria, the tour continues this weekend. Cupeiro will perform at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, Tenerife, this Saturday at 8:30 p.m., followed by a final show at the Auditorio Insular in Fuerteventura on Sunday at 8:00 p.m. Through these performances, Cupeiro demonstrates that these ancient sounds still have the power to resonate with modern audiences.
